How to Learn the 12 Times Table
- Split 12 into 10 and 2. For 12 × 8, work out 10 × 8 = 80 and 2 × 8 = 16, then add them: 80 + 16 = 96.
- Double the 6 times table. 6 × 7 = 42, so 12 × 7 = 84.
- Spot the pattern in the last digits. The answers end in 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 and then repeat: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120.
- Use facts you already know. 12 × 5 is the same as 5 × 12. Children already know their 5 times table.
- Remember the big ones. 12 × 11 = 132 and 12 × 12 = 144, which is also a square number.
Tip: the 12 times table is useful in real life. There are 12 months in a year, 12 inches in a foot and 12 items in a dozen.
