The Quick Answer
- The 6 times table goes 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60, 66 and 72.
- Children learn it in Year 4, when they should know all their tables up to 12 × 12.
- The quickest strategy is double the 3 times table: 3 × 7 = 21, so 6 × 7 = 42.
- The multiplication tables check in Year 4 includes 2 to 4 questions from the 6 times table.
The 6 Times Table
| Multiplication | Answer |
|---|---|
| 1 × 6 | 6 |
| 2 × 6 | 12 |
| 3 × 6 | 18 |
| 4 × 6 | 24 |
| 5 × 6 | 30 |
| 6 × 6 | 36 |
| 7 × 6 | 42 |
| 8 × 6 | 48 |
| 9 × 6 | 54 |
| 10 × 6 | 60 |
| 11 × 6 | 66 |
| 12 × 6 | 72 |
How to Learn the 6 Times Table
- Double the 3 times table. 3 × 8 = 24, so 6 × 8 = 48.
- Add one more 6 to the 5 times table. 5 × 9 = 45, so 6 × 9 = 45 + 9 = 54.
- Spot the even number pattern. When you multiply 6 by 2, 4, 6 or 8, the answer ends in the same digit: 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36 and 6 × 8 = 48.
- Use facts you already know. 6 × 5 is the same as 5 × 6. By Year 4, children already know the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables, so most 6s facts are not new.
- Learn the hardest facts on their own. 6 × 7 = 42, 6 × 8 = 48 and 6 × 9 = 54 cause the most mistakes.
Tip: every answer in the 6 times table is even. If your answer is odd, check it again.
